Sheridan County is ground zero for the fight against invasive grasses, especially ventenata in Wyoming.
Bighorn Flying Co. Vice President Jamie Foy has been at the tip of the spear in the fight against ventenata from the very beginning and has worked closely with local government agencies, chemical manufacturers and landowners to help determine the best application techniques and management practices for controlling this threat to our native range ecosystem. We work with NRCS, W&P districts, conservation districts and the WY G&F as part of a team effort to control invasive species.
We participate in the NE Wyoming Invasive Grass Working Group (NEWIGWG) to stay informed and involved in the overall fight against invasive grasses in our area.
Mostly helicopters. The helicopter is an excellent tool for our service area!
Maintenance Costs! A helicopter costs roughly three times as much to operate per hour compared to an airplane.
In a word: "terrain". The helicopter is slower and can follow terrain in rough or mountainous country much better than an airplane. The result is a better overall job, especially in the hard to reach places. An airplane works great where the terrain is suited for it. We'll be happy to visit with you about witch aircraft suits your job best.
The helicopter is versatile enough to handle small, focused jobs or to completely cover large pastures.
Please reach out with whatever questions you have. We're happy to help!
